The Indo-Pak conflict that took place between May and July 1999 is the most recent example of high altitude warfare in mountainous terrain. Kargil Vijay Diwas is celebrated every year in honour of the Kargil war heroes, the 527 soldiers of the Indian Armed Forces who laid down their lives for our country along with a flight lieutenant, taken as a prisoner of war. It was therefore a bittersweet moment for India as it took command of the high outposts that they'd lost to Pakistan.
